The Silver Stirrup Studio
The Silver Stirrup Studio originated in the late 1980's, initially as a workplace & studio for the
variety of Custom art, Equine Portraiture, & other horse related art Laurie Rylander devoted
hours to, using a variety of mediums and an equally vast roster of canvas types to work on.
Sweetwater Farms offers World Class Appaloosa Horses with pedigrees specifically geared towards excelling in a
variety of competitive events. In addition to our horses, stallion services, schooling and boarding, Sweetwater
Farms also provides today's competitors with what's needed to compete at events, ranging from local to World
levels. From maintaining show rigs, to offering the latest in Ready to Win show apparel with some super
coordinating tack, we've got you covered!

The surgery done at MGH, Boston in September, 2014 was an epic failure, to say the
least.  About 2 weeks post-op, the entire thigh turned black & blue, swelling until it
felt as though it would burst. The doctor at Mass General was 3 hours away and refused
our request to have a visiting nurse come. So 4 more long days were spent in incredibly
pain without relief-until the 8" long incision burst open, apparently the result of an
internal ever growing abscess.  My daily battles with my own body continue & since
the surgery I've lost ground with 4 long hospital stays including one that had me in the
hospital for Christmas.  The ongoing, destruction of the large muscles of my thigh
continue, with horrific disfigurement & constant pain leaving me never knowing what I
will be able to wear on what days. The simple act of dressing-limited to sweats or
compression breeches/tights is still almost impossible to predict.

To stop having dreams is to stop having hope!  And, personally speaking I still have
plenty of dreams, hope, spirit and drive!

A special long time dream in the making, is finally coming to fruition.  With a brick &
mortar store at Sweetwater Farms, we may also take some our portable show shop on
the road. Based on market needs, as assessed by experienced horsemen for horsemen,
the Grand Re-Opening of The Silver Stirrup Studio for Horse Enthusiasts & Lovers, and
the Equestrian & Riding public is upcoming!

During 2018, Cape Cod Equine LLC will sponsor events focusing on the Versatility of
Horse & Rider Teams, which we hope competitors & spectators alike will enjoy! The
events are planned to takeplace at Sweetwater Farms.

Our love for Appaloosas, combined with a devotion to the Appaloosa breed has created
a drive within us that for the past 40 years has welcomed horse enthusiasts from all
breeds to get spotted on an Appaloosa-doing whatever you enjoy doing with your
horse!   At Sweetwater Farms we've got you covered!

          Life goes on...

          Life goes on...
                     & do so we!

Since the 1970's at Sweetwater Farms, we have offered Quality Appaloosa Horses, with
proven pedigrees, correct physical builds encouraging long-term soundness, and willing
mindsets which believe is a combination of assets that can be geared towards equine
excellence in a variety of competitive events-and often for the long haul.

Many Sweetwater horses enjoy unusually long show careers, often as Youth & NonPro
Horses.  Throughout their show careers many have always seemed capable of giving a
heartfelt competitive effort at whatever a rider would decide to try, while also
remaining sound & happy. Having a pleasant attitude is as essential & important as being
well trained with regard to horses-whether prepping for Nationals or tacking up for trail
riding. Laurie Rylander feels blessed to have earned over 17 World &/or National
Championships, National English NP Rider of the Year, National Versatilty Champion, and
more. Her show string living at Sweetwater Farms. Jamie's reiners were kept with the
late Randy Cutbirth, 4 hours away, but with better ground for allowing each of his
reiners to give their all-without worrying about the effects of having ground that was too
soft & sandy for hard stops...

At Sweetwater Farms in addition to our Appaloosa horses, stallion services, sales and
boarding, we also provide today's competitors and equine enthusiasts with what's needed
to compete successfully in events from local to the World levels.  From maintaining show
rigs, wheel bearings, winterizing, camper repairs-to offering the latest in Ready to Win
show apparel, with some super coordinating tack, & plenty of finishing touches, including
some handy farm & trail riding gear-we've got you covered.

Over the years the needs of the family & farm evolved, bringing about some changes to
Sweetwater Farms, not the least of which was changing from a show farm to a breeding
farm. Other exciting happenings was the addition of The Silver Stirrup Studio as a Show
Boutique & Model Horse Shop, perfect for Breyer, Artists Resins, Peter Stone & other
model enthusiasts who show, collect &/or display their models, along with suitable
custom made dolls, riders, tack and props.

In December of 2002, a severe neuropathy caused by tumors, originally of unknown
origin, in Laurie's large sensory nerve, which runs from the upper thigh to the knee. This
kept constant pain on the large peripheral sensory nerve which runs from the spinal
cord, down the side of the leg and was diagnosed without hope. After having spent 4
spacey years in bed & at that point 12 years in a wheelchair, cutting the tumors via a
deep surgery was presented as the only option left.
